Setting a new tub or shower pan is the easy part. What decides whether it lasts is everything you won’t see once the job is done: a level, well-supported base, a drain that actually pulls water away, sealed valve and drain connections, and a waterproof layer behind the walls.

What Goes Into a Leak-Free Shower

A sloped, sealed base
The shower floor has to fall toward the drain so water never sits in corners. We build or set the base to slope correctly and seal it to the drain.
A continuous waterproof layer
Grout and tile are not waterproof. We install a membrane behind the tile on walls and floor, with sealed seams, corners, niches, and valve openings.
Anti-scald valves & clean plumbing
We install pressure-balancing or thermostatic valves and check every supply and drain connection before the walls are closed.
Washington State follows the Uniform Plumbing Code (adopted statewide under WAC 51-56), which sets the rules for shower drains, valves, and pans. When a project moves or replaces plumbing, we pull the permit and schedule the inspection for you.
